Dynamic St Andrew’s Anglican College twins Heidi and Holly are kicking goals, lots of them… literally.

Competing at a National level in two different sports is no easy feat, but Holly and Heidi have proven that they are up to the challenge. Their story is one of sibling synergy, determination, and the pursuit of excellence, both selected for Queensland in Football and AFL, a unique accomplishment that is testament to their versatility as athletes.

Playing as part of the Sunshine Coast team at the week-long State Football Championships on 1 August in Townsville, both girls earnt selection in the 10-12 Years Girls Queensland Representative School Sport Football Team to compete at the National Championships in October.

Holly, shone brightly, scoring an incredible 11 goals for the Sunshine Coast team, making her the highest goal scorer of the tournament. Her precision and skill on the field were unmatched, and she played a crucial role in driving her team’s performance.

“My highlight was play South Coast because I got player of the match, and you get a special pin,” Holly said.

Not ones to rest of their laurels, the twins quickly swapped round balls for sherrins and  30 degree heat for beanies and scarves. In the last 10 minutes of the last game in Townsville, the duo were subbed off to run (literally) to get to the airport to fly to Geelong to represent Queensland at the National Schools AFL championships in Geelong.

The Year 7 siblings fought hard for their state throughout the carnival playing 6 games over 5 days, and finished as runners up on the national stage.

“Our goal now is just to keep playing both … and win the grand final for St Andrew’s football this term,” Heidi said.
