A move to St Andrew’s to train alongside some of the best swimmers in the world with a world class coach, has paid dividends for 17 year-old swimmer Jack Morrow, who has just returned from the 2024 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Canberra.

Jack won two bronze medals on his international debut as part of the Junior Australian Dolphins team, in the 100m backstroke and 4x100m men's medley relay.

“It feels very relieving to know that all the hard work that I have done has had a benefit,” Jack said.

“To medal at my first junior international meet gives me lots of confidence moving forward knowing that I can overcome challenges in situations which I may not have much experience in. I’m very happy with my results and the experience and learning I gained from it.”

The Year 11 student made the move from Victoria to St Andrew’s for schooling and swimming at the start of this year, and has thrived in his new environment which he says “motivates me to be better each day.”

Not only did Jack come home with multiple medals, but invaluable international experience and confidence which he will use to fuel his passion and goals.

“It was good to meet new people from other countries and experience little things they may do different (such as swimming on opposite sides of the lane),” he said.

“Being exposed to the best junior swimmers in the world was beneficial to see what they do in their races in terms of skills to see what it takes to be the best.

“This team is the one which has had the most pressure on performance out of all the teams I have been on due to the high level of competitors and representing your country - which is why this was such a valuable experience for me.”

After a three week break, Jack is looking forward to getting back into training and setting his sights on the next goal.

“Junior Pan Pacs has helped give me confidence moving forward and has given me a sense of relief from expectation and performance with my recent success,” he said.

“The success I have experienced helps me to keep enjoying my swimming for the friends I have made and experience I have gained that I will remember forever and has reinforced my will and want to keep swimming.

“I look forward to trying to make the Junior Australian team again next year to go the Junior World Championships and from there trying to make a senior team for numerous teams such as the Commonwealth Games and the Olympics.”
