Isobelle Woodruff
Class of 2011
As an Emergency Registrar in a major emergency and trauma centre in Melbourne, Isobelle loves spending her time talking with and caring for people in some of their most vulnerable moments.
Isobelle is currently training to be an emergency specialist and hopes to continue research in resource limited emergency departments and capacity building, combining her love of health equity and travel.
Often found hiding out in the music department practising for upcoming performances or making tasty treats in the Chinese classroom, Isobelle now gets her creative fix through pottery classes and hitting up the art galleries and music gigs Victoria has to offer. When Isobelle isn’t at work also loves to travel, go hiking and spend time with family and friends.
What did you do directly after school? Studies, travel, living etc
I went straight into uni in Brisbane, squeezing in as much travel in between studies as I could manage.
Did you study at University and graduation news etc?
I studied a Bachelor of Biomedical Science at Griffith University in Brisbane, including a semester abroad in Sweden. I then moved to Sydney to study my postgraduate Doctor of Medicine (MD).
What are you currently doing workwise? What are your long-term goals?
I am currently work as an Emergency Registrar in a major emergency and trauma centre in Melbourne. I’m training to be an emergency specialist and love what I do! Working in emergency means no two days are the same. I get to spend my time talking with and caring for people through some of their most vulnerable moments, as well as working with some incredible colleagues. I am passionate about healthcare accessibility and hope to continue my research in resource limited emergency departments and capacity building, combining my love of health equity and travel.
What were your interests during school… sport, music etc and are you still involved?
I could often be found hiding out in the music department practising for whatever upcoming performance we had or making tasty treats in the Chinese classroom. I enjoyed sports and science but was definitely a creative at heart. I don’t play nearly as much cello as I used to, but I get my creative fix through pottery classes and hitting up all the art galleries and music gigs Victoria has to offer.
Do you stay in touch with friends from school?
I’m still best friends with someone I met on my very first day at St Andrew’s back in 2003!
Have you visited the College in recent years and if so what are your thoughts on the new facilities (eg Learning Hub, Aquatic Centre)?
I loved coming back to St Andrew’s for the 10 year reunion. So much has changed about the school – when I started it was a few demountable buildings and one oval! My cousins are in high school and love the new facilities.
