As we lead into our Foundation Day on Friday and the end of Term 2 it is appropriate to look back at all that has been achieved.
I think all would agree that its been a busy and active term for those who have been involved in College life. I risk missing something by even trying to list all the events in academic, sporting, musical and cultural fields that have occurred over the last ten weeks but in listing a few examples, I would include the College Musical, Sporting finals, Kokoda Challenge, Anglican Schools Music festival and the various academic trips and excursions – but there are many more as well as individual personal achievements.
For some Senior students who went to New York, participated in the Musical, travelled to Fraser and Heron Islands, all at the beginning of the term and then concluded with a two-week exam block, I guess the term has flown particularly quickly!
All these activities highlight for us (as teachers and parents), the need to be aware of the many events that our teenagers could be a part of and to consider mapping their involvement with consideration to achieving the best that they can in the classroom as well. It is a real balancing act and one that is not able to be compared or measured from one student to the next. The upcoming break is a timely reminder to allow our teens to have a rest from organised activities and refresh ready for the second Semester.
As this term concludes, Mrs Amy Thompson departs on maternity leave. Mrs Thompson’s classes will be taken by existing staff within the Commerce faculty – Mrs Nic Grant and Mr Mark Gurry. Mrs Maree Bowen will also take on an additional load to allow this to happen. I would like to thank them all for their willingness to take on these additional classes at this time. Mrs Margaret Hooper will be acting in the Head of Faculty role.
We also welcome back from Long Service Leave Mr Brad Bowen, Mrs Maree Bowen and Mrs Trina Provan all of whom will resume their Term 1 classes.
In the Music faculty, Ms Savanna Griechen is moving into the Head of Vocal role, Mr Jonathan Harding will take on the role of Acting Director of Co-Curricular Music. Mrs Jenny Grant, our Head of English Faculty will take on the role of Acting Director of Information Services following the departure of Mrs Katy Kirby. Mrs Felicity Greenbank will continue at the College taking on English classes for each of these teachers to allow them the time to undertake their new roles. Parents will be notified over the break if their child’s class is to be affected by these changes.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our staff, students, parents and volunteers who have made this another successful term within the St Andrew’s Secondary school. I wish all the staff and students a happy and safe Winter break and look forward to seeing you all in Term 3.
