Well, the 2017 Sunshine Coast Schools Water Polo Season is now over and what a fantastic season it was for St Andrew’s. With numbers growing to approximately 140 participants and an incredible 15 teams 2017 has been our most successful year yet. Monday night’s Finals at Kawana were incredibly busy with 9 of our teams competing for Premierships. All teams did extremely well on the night showing wonderful determination and sportsmanship at all times. A massive congratulations to the Junior Girls 1, Junior Girls 2, Intermediate Boys 1, Intermediate Girls 2, Open Girls 2, Open Girls Firsts and Open Boys Firsts who won their matches and were awarded Sunshine Coast Champions. Special mention must go to our two Intermediate Boys teams, the depth and quality of St Andrew’s players in this age group allowed us to enter two teams in the “A“ Division competition. Both of our teams made the final and played an absolutely thrilling and physical final, with St Andrew’s 1 narrowly beating St Andrew’s 2.
Congratulations also to Harry Fry and Gabby Emerick who were both awarded MVP for their terrific performances on the night!
Needless to say, these achievements would not be possible without the hard work, dedication and enthusiasm of our students, their parents and of course the coaches and officials – a massive thank you to Paul Coolican, Sally Powell, Alex Austin, Amy Thompson, Zach Jones, Steve Robson, Jane Cooksley, Lauren Norbury, Andrew Linthorne, Oli Dickson and of course our Water Polo Captains Maddi Coolican and Harrison Fry.
