Sam set to sail on Young Endeavour

Year 10 student Sam Rieger will soon set off on the adventure of a lifetime after being accepted to sail on the Young Endeavour over the September school holidays.

The Young Endeavour Youth Scheme is an internationally recognised development program that provides young Aussies with a unique, challenging and inspirational experience at sea.

He is one of 24 youth crew members that will sail on the voyage from Mackay to Brisbane over eleven days.

“The STS Young Endeavour was a gift to Australia from the United Kingdom for the 1988 Bicentennial celebrations,” Sam said.

Since then over 12,000 young Australians have experienced a unique opportunity to ‘walk in the shoes’ of Captain Cook, by being a crew member.

“The ‘Youthies’ become the Captain’s crew learning the art of sailing a tall ship, which then leads to the young crew commanding the ship during the final days of their voyage.”

Sam’s Young Endeavour voyage sets off on 16 September. Follow the Captain’s Log of his journey at https://www.youngendeavour.gov.au/captains-log
