What a season of Rugby 7's. Congratulations to our 7's teams - with the U15 Girls, U13 Boys and U17 Girls who are SCISSA Champions and U15 Boys finished runners up. It was a super Finals evening and the quality of Rugby was outstanding and a reflection on the growth and development of Rugby 7's. The U17 Girls FInal was particularly high quality. Huge thanks to the massive support from so many families - The sideline was buzzing! A special mention to our girls who in their first season were unbelievably impressive- Thank you Kylie Moses, Sally Powell, Brent Mitchell and Sophie for all their great work. Thank you also to boys coaches Calum Dowie and Mr Christesen. Keep a look out for the video on the Facebook page here Congratulations to everyone involved on a really enjoyable season of 7's.
1st XV -
What a season for our 1st XV who played 9 - lost 3 and won 6 andplayed in the grand Final.
Many thanks to the many people who made the journey down to the Sunshine Coast Stadium to watch our Opens Rugby final. After leading the whole way through, and with 5 minutes left to play, the boys led 22-21. James Nash then scored a well worked try to take a 28-22 lead that they were to hold until the final whistle. In truth, James Nash were the stronger team and it was great credit to our players that they hung in there for so long.
It was a very unique atmosphere in the changing room afterwards, lots of smiles, laughs and positivity, unusual for a grand final loss. As a player or a coach, defeat has never sat well with me, especially in big games. Whenever I’ve seen players laughing and joking so soon after a defeat it would always make me question how much it really meant to them.
These guys have taught me that this isn’t always the case. Their effort both last night and all season has been unquestionable. I would never have thought back in February that this motley crew would have taught me much, a great reminder that we never stop learning and that we often learn from the most unlikely sources. I guess their real victory was the day they first got this team together and they’ve been playing like it’s their last game ever since!
Special mention, and thanks should go to Kai Marshall, James Oakes, Chavonne Moccero-Long and Liam Leo who have been the glue that has kept this group together this season. They have shown great leadership and energy throughout.
