Kokoda 2018

A massive congratulations for your involvement in what was an inspirational 2018 Kokoda Challenge.

This year, St Andrew’s entered an incredible 37 teams in this event, including thirteen 15km teams, eleven 30km teams and thirteen 48km teams, encompassing 137 Students, 32 staff members and 5 committed parents.

Our St Andrew’s teams all competed brilliantly with many teams placing inside the top ten of their respective category. A big win by Mr Aus, Wiil, Max, Luca and Harry in the 48km in just over 7 hours, beating 98 teams was seriously impressive. It is also about the stories of overwhelming perseverance, team work, bravery and determination demonstrated by our teams that truly encapsulates what this event is all about, and will continue to be spoken of for much time to come. In the true Kokoda spirit, our students and their leaders drew strength from their team mates, supported one another when the going got tough and never gave up in turning the impossible into possible!

A big thank you to the families who supported our teams’ participation in this event, providing transport to and from Brisbane, emotional support, assistance as support crews and financially. The St Andrew's families were certainly the loudest in their support of our teams and the many other teams that crossed the line. In total, St Andrew’s teams raised a notable $4875 for the Kokoda Youth Foundation, which assists in the provision of key programs, courses and opportunities to Australian youth from all social backgrounds, to enhance their opportunities in life.

Special mention must go to all team leaders who selflessly gave up their time and energy not just on the day, but in the lead-up to Kokoda to organise team trainings, registration and logistics. We also thank Margo Mackintosh and Sam Pearson for their huge investment of time setting up, supporting teams and keeping track of all financial aspects associated with the College’s participation in this event.

Thank you to the Kokoda Challenge organisers and volunteers for all their hard work in puting on such a great event.

Again, a huge congratulations to all of our participants. I hope that the achy, sore bodies that most are experiencing are soon forgotten and we can look forward to entering even more teams in 2019.
