Co-Curricular Music 2019

To create and feel Music is a special thing. At St Andrew’s Anglican College, we engage our students to Make Music Together. Our students support, listen and reflect upon their craft and they receive the necessary support and encouragement needed for success. Through our three core elements, Instrumental Music Lessons, Ensemble Pathways and Performance Opportunities, our students take risks and share their music through teamwork. The possibilities and opportunities are endless if we each display confidence and dedication.
If you would like your child/ren to become involved with music beyond the classroom curriculum, and to develop new talents, create broader social contacts, and enhance key skills for successful academic study, then please read further about how the Co-Curricular Music program operates at St Andrew’s through our Co-Curricular Music Handbook or through the information provided below.
Instrumental Music Lessons
If you would like to your child to start Instrumental Music lessons in 2019, please visit the Co-curricular Music page of the College Website for information about instruments available and lessons. Please complete and submit the online Expression of Interest form. Families with students continuing with Instrumental Music Lessons are asked to log into Parent Lounge and accept the Instrumental Music Lessons. (Please do not complete an Expression of Interest if your child has been having lessons in 2018.)

Ensemble Pathways
All students who undertake lessons are required to join one or more of the College’s ensembles, as advised by their instrumental music teacher or the Director of Music, in relation to readiness and potential. For most music students, the ‘step up’ to ensemble membership is eagerly sought, and once obtained is something they treasure due to the music challenges presented, the camaraderie of working closely with their peers, and the opportunity for recognition of their skills through a variety of performances. Detailed information about available ensemble pathways can be found on the College website, Co-Curricular Music section, Ensembles. All of our ensembles will start in Week 2, Term 1.

Music Expo
Please join us at the Music Expo in Week 1, Friday 1 February from 3:30pm till 4:30pm in the Studio. Mrs Sue Patterson, our 2019 Director of Music, Music Leaders and Ensemble Directors will be on hand to answer your questions, show you a range of different instruments and chat to you about our Instrumental Music Lessons, Ensemble Pathways and Performance Opportunities.

Co-Curricular Music Events
It is going to be another busy year with lots of fantastic events, camps, tours, recitals and workshops. Please refer to the school calendar in Parent Lounge and the College website for details of these events.

Instrumental Music Student Development Payment
A small number of payments will be offered to students by the Principal through the recommendation of the Director of Music. These payments will be offered in areas of unique specialisation on instruments that are often very expensive as well as providing financial assistance to access special opportunities. The number of the payments offered each year will depend upon the instrumental balance of ensembles at the beginning of each year and the annual budget allocation for this program. The payment will cover tuition costs and instrument hire for an entire year with an option by the College to be renewed for a 2nd year. The successful applicants will demonstrate commitment to this opportunity through consistent home practice, punctual attendance to weekly lessons and participation in an ensemble pathway through the Co-Curricular Music Ensemble program. In 2019, these payments will be offered for the following instrument specialisations: Male Voice, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Oboe, Bassoon, Bass Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone, French Horn, Trombone, Baritone, Euphonium, Tuba. Application forms are available on the College website. Applications are now due by Monday 21 January 2019.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Music Office.
